What is a double-cleanse?

Image of man washing his face, What is a double cleanse?

I am not going to lie, when I first heard about the double-cleanse, I thought it was just washing your face twice a day. After realising, that was probably not right decided to look into this technique in greater detail. In retrospect, my initial thoughts were correct, but as they say ‘the devil is in the detail’.

I’ve double-cleansed for a while now in the evenings, and it has changed my skin no end!

The principles of a double-cleanse

Taken from South Korea, simply involves using an oil-based cleanser followed by cleansing with a foaming face wash. The idea is oil attracts oil and water is attracted to water – perfect in theory!

The basic idea of the double cleanse is that the oil-based cleanser breaks down any suncream, makeup, sweat, etc. on your face. While the foaming wash cleans and washes away anything left by the oil cleanser. The method enables the foaming wash the opportunity to clean out your pores properly. The result…a lovely clean face that is not stripped or greasy!

One step people tend to miss out, wetting the oil cleanser with a small amount of water once massaged on the face will cause the cleanser to turn milky white. When this happens, carry on lightly rubbing the cleanser into your skin for a short while before rinsing off.

Oil-based cleansers I particularly like (non-affiliate links):

For a foaming cleanser, my holy grail is the CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser
