The DHC Deep Cleansing Oil was my first foray into cleansing oils; I honestly was a bit scared to use this as I have combo/oily skin and thought this could be a recipe for disaster. However, this was a part of a double cleanse, and the theory is that oil attracts oil, I settled on a wallet-friendly and travel-sized 30ml bottle of DHC Deep Cleansing Oil to try it out.
I have to say that I liked this so much that I bought a full-sized bottle after the first couple of washes. It is honestly a lovely cleansing oil (mind you not that I knew any better at the time!)
The result nourished and clean skin, without a hint of it being stripped of any natural moisture. But I still worry about heavier cleansers (such as this) could clogging pores (comedogenic), so this is part one of my nightly double-cleanse. I am sure those that don’t have acne-prone skin may be happy enough just using this.
Just a quick word on double cleansing – because I wear sunscreen and several other products during the day, I see this technique is required to get rid of the occlusive layer (mixed in with the daily grime) effectively.
DHC Deep Cleansing Oil product claims and ingredients
This deep cleansing oil is meant to gently cleanse by melting makeup and sunscreen, while also helping to get rid of the general muck that collects on your face during the day. I really can’t vouch for the make up removal, as I don’t wear it, but this certainly gets rid of my sunscreen and leaves the skin moisturised not oily.
This product contains several key ingredients, including:
Olive oil – is the base and provides moisturising, anti-oxidant and cleansing benefits.
Rosemary – I think this is to provide a natural scent and gives a slight tingly/refreshing feel. To be honest, the smell is just like olive oil to me!
Vitamin E – protects from free radicals and probably one of the most used vitamins in the cosmetics industry.
At the time of writing, a 200ml pump bottle of the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil costs £24.00 from Feelunique.com, given that you will only use two or so pumps this will last a while. This product is one of those items where there is generally a good deal to be had so if you are interested in this product shop around!
My Final Thoughts
Washing your face with oil may seem like an insane thing to do, but the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil is formulated to be light and easily removed. I find this to be a particularly effective and gentle cleanser.
Olive oil in itself should be quite occlusive and pore-clogging, but this oil has been formulated to gently emulsify once some water has been added to wash away with no trace of a residue.
As part of the double cleanse, I will follow this up with a foaming face wash to give my pores a good cleanout. My go-to is the Cerve Foaming Facewash; which I particularly like as it is gentle, has niacinamide and ceramides. In my opinion, they form a brilliant tag team.
All I can say is wow, just wow…I was utterly taken back on how clean your skin can feel without any sign of irritation.
The DHC Deep Cleansing Oil is in my everyday routine, as I like to try other things, but I know I will always keep coming back to this product. It turns out a misconception I had about this product, in the beginning, were unfounded.
